The problem: On frequent occasions, when I watch videos online and sometimes from hard drive, or listen to any audio tracks from iTunes, my computer will violently lock up and start making horrendous crackling and static noises. I can't move the mouse or use the keyboard. There is no video distortion, but if any audio is playing it's terrible sounding.
What I have done: I have replaced the graphics card, still happens I have replaced the hard drive and installed a fresh copy of W7, as well as installed a fresh copy of W7 on older hard drive, still happens. Switched out my RAM with a completely different brand, but same type, speed, and size... still happens but less frequently. Cleaned out my registry multiple times a day at boot up, still happens. Changed keyboard, still happens. Dusted and cleaned inside and outside of PC, still happens.
Misc: I haven't been playing any video games so I haven't encountered it while playing games, because well...I haven't been playing any. And for those of you telling me I should update my VGA drivers, I can't...because ATI Radeon 5870 driver version 12.4 will not install, and 12.3 causes BSOD, so I am stuck with 12.2.
