So recently I put this system together

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

XFX HD-685X-ZCFC Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX

Antec EarthWatts EA-650 GREEN 650W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B

Here's the issue thus far: I am expecting the memory to operate at 1600mhz, it's currently operating , and being detected as ddr 1333. I can confirm this in Cpu-Z, speccy , and the Easy tune software that came with gigagabyte's Driver / chipset software DVD. This is a fresh install of windows, and I haven't modified any settings or have done anything crazy just yet

I have also updated the Bios to F6 revision. My mobo's board revision is 1.1.

this is my confusion - If i go into the bios and turn off SPD, I can manually set the memory timings etc... to run at 1600mhz blah blah blah, however after doing so and a sucessfull post, it is still showing as DDR3 1333.

What do I need to do besides run this memory over with a lawn mower?

I have a Sabertooth motherboard from Asus with the 990 chipset and in the bios UEFI there are several choices to choose from to set the proper speed of the ram. I chose 1600 and saved/exited the bios and when I post it says 1600. I had this ram running at 1866 and the CPU ran at 4.156 gigs. Decided not to stress the parts and went back to 1600.

Nasty

I think it may have something to do with Intel XMP and not having Intel gear. The thing that makes me suspicious is that XMP is mentioned at the bottom of the specs on your RAM. My RAM is the same way, is rated for 1600 but will only automatically go to 1333 with my AMD motherboard and processor, but of course I can manually change it to 1600 in BIOS.
