Got a sticky situation. My wifes win7 install has become unstable. I want to back all her itunes stuff to a 2nd internal hd. I see a lot about backing up itunes library to a external HD. but nothing about an internal hd. ALso her "library" has picture, movies, music, music videos, iphone apps, ipod apps, iphone back up, some pod casts. Everything I see about backing up to an external hd talks about only a music library.
Now it get more interesting. The music, apps, and some video in on c:, but all the pictures, and some movies are on the 2nd internal drive. C:is an 90gb SSD almost full. So I can't use the itunes 'condense library' function. The 2nd hd, (the one i want to back up to) is 500gb about 3/4 full 79gb free. I think a full back of itunes will fit, just barely.
ANy ideas.

If you can find where iTunes put everything, then you should be able to just copy and paste them to somewhere else.

Now if you don't want to wait for iTunes to re-library everything, then I'm not much help.

I can't just move directories around. A lot of this stuff was purchased, some when DRM was in place, some not. This library is many many years old. It has gone through an XP to vista upgrade then to upgrade to win 7. SO an itunes 'official" back up is what I think should be called for. She does not want to lose what she purchased 8 years ago, for example.

More ideas out there?
Thanks all :)

Make a DVD backup of the drive using your hard drive manufactures setup software (usually Acronis ). It is free and can be had from your hard drives website. Now you can muck around all you want...if you screw up just re-image the drive from the backup you made. After you made the backup, try imaging a spare hard drive and see if it boots up ok, then when you proved to yourself it does, go ahead and muck around.

If you copy and paste the iTunes Media folder to another drive you are making a backup copy, NOT changing directories. This will allow you to reinstall Windows & iTunes and copy/paste them back. I have been doing this for years with my iTunes library. I copy and paste the folder to my eSATA drive, then copy it back when I'm ready. Pretty simple really.
