Maximum PC

As you guessed i own an Ibm Lenovo t61 thinkpad with all the bells and whistles for its time webcam 7600 250 gig hard drive 2.4gz 4 ram gig cache.
why is this having so much trouble with 7. its got plenty of memory and speed.

the original owner downgraded from vista to xp and i got someone to upgrade it to 7.

as he was upgrading it it would shut off and restart after 5min. was he doing something wrong. is 7 incompatible with t61s harddrives? or is the hard drive needing of replacing. im stumped.

Its been upgraded to 7 somehow. so im using it at moment however after every 15 max of moderate net use it shuts off for no reason and you have to wait another 15 min to get it back running again. if you try to restart it after it shuts off it wont work..blue srceen comes up with warning memory dump etc. restart normally or search for error option.

I'd do a clean install of windows after reformatting the hard drive. It sounds like something is corrupt or otherwise damaged.

Could this be a heat related issue? maybe a fan has quit and it shuts down and needs those 15 minutes to cool off to restart? I would think any "regular" fail would allow you to restart right away. Just my $.02. Good luck, and let us know what works to resolve this issue, please.

That's a good point... but then it wouldn't just happen when Jpegs are viewed.

Does this happen when the laptop has the AC adapter/charger plugged in or when its just running on battery power or both? I had a similar problem with a Compaq laptop and found out that the problem was the AC adapter/charger.
