Maximum PC

I currently have a PCI-e soundblaster X-Fi, the card suddenly doesn't pick up my mic, I cannot use the apps that come with the card. I still can get sound, but it sounds like the on board sound. I have done everything from driver sweeper, deleting files, and running uninstall and the problem still persist. When I try to open the contorl panel, the system tells me that there is no device installed, when I go to check it out, the drivers have installed, but I tried to re-install like 4 times and getting the same result. Is there anything that I am missing or is there something else going on?

First things first: Look at your mobo manual to see how to disable the onboard sound in your BIOS. Some boards say to set it to "Disable", others say set it to "Auto".

I disabled the onboard sound. I noticed another problem, I had two other programs system mechcanic and autocad decided not to work at all, all of these are installed on my primary drive. I have been thinking that I may have a dying drive for a while, I bought it back in summer of 08'. I have noticed occasionally that t has legged a bit here and there, I oc'd amd 955 to 3.8Ghz and 8 G's of ram. when I start doing multible stuff at the same time, the system freezes and forced me to shut down.
