Maximum PC

I have built a new rig with a SSD as the C drive. What I need help with is changing the default install drive to the E drive. I think that there is Reg hack to tell the system to default install to another drive>

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

1. right click on "my computer"
2. Select "manage"
3. Under 'storage' select "disk management"
4. Scroll down in bottom right window to the drive you'd like to change
5. Highlight said drive, right click and change it.

suunsu: you'll cause much more of mess by doing this and you'll be better served creating the partition with the drive letter you want, then installing to that.

What are you trying to accomplish by doing this anyways?

hmmm.. guess I didn't notice that part - thanks for the correction.

The reason being is the drive is mounted as it's a system drive. You could change it with a tool like gparted, but in the end, you're system is looking for things on C: and it's really on E:.

What I think the OP wants is to leave the OS on the SSD (C Drive), but wants all programs to install onto a separate drive (E). There is a way to do this, but unfortunately a lot of programs ignore the hack when you make the change and default to the C drive anyway. It becomes even more of a headache when you start talking 64 Bit OS, and 32 bit or 64 bit programs. That is why I posted the link in my first post, so he would clear up some of the info we need, and to remove his email address.

That's why I was asking what he wanted to do too... because I wasn't sure if I was grasping entirely what he wanted. What you said makes sense too...
