I have a computer that won't keeps saying -no bootable device enter boot disk and press any key- or something along those lines. I stuck the drive into another computer and it had a deleted partition somehow... so I repaired that and got it looking like it was good, but I put it back in the computer and the same message kept coming up (even after resetting BIOS to default). I am guessing the SATA controller on the motherboard is toast.

I need help finding a SATA controller that lets me do the following:

1. Put the card in the computer
2. Connect Harddrive and DVD-R
3. Turn PC on
4. Boots to that harddrive

I do not want it to Delete the harddrive before use or have to install the card in windows first

I have been looking for the past hour trying to find a card that does that. and there are RAID SATA controller cards, but they talk about deleting the harddrive when you set the drive up initially in the BIOS.

hopefully what i'm looking for can be done. Help would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

thank you!

oh, and I have PCI and PCI-X slots available.

here are some cards I was looking at:

The first paragraph is very telling, yet doesn't help much. Did you mean to have a clean drive to add to the computer or did you want data off of it?

We also don't know what your computer is or what those others are. If it was a FAT32 drive and stab it into win7, it needs you to tell it that.

A couple nights ago, the computer worked fine, the next morning, it doesn't boot. first it says something about no partition, then next time it boots it goes to no bootable device screen.

The harddrive has windows 7 - 64 bit (NFTS)

motherboard is Asus P5N-D (socket 775/nforce 750i)
harddrive is samsung spinpoint f3 1TB

I'm not trying to install a new harddrive or operating system. I am trying to get the current harddrive that was working in the computer to work again.

hope this clarify things!

Have you tried a new cable? It could very well be that the cable in the machine that's acting up could be bad.

Yeah, tried 3 different ones.

also, DVD-R locks up when it tries to read and the eject button will then not work.

This really sounds more like an excuse to buy a controller card.

I'm not sure what it matters how you want to get it to work, your drive doesn't boot anyways. If you're able to boot it without the need of installing drivers, then you really have no problem.

So just as a thought, have you tried to pull up a boot menu when attempting to boot and actually choosing the HD? Truly this just sounds like something that can be corrected by the repair function to load both the bootsector and ntbootloader.

Yeah, I've gone into the boot menu and selected the drive, but it still goes to boot disk failure.

Care to elaborate on this?

I'm not super knowledgeable

If you think it can be solved without spending money, then I would be VERY happy.

does master boot record need to be repaired connected to the motherboard that the harddrive will be using? because if so, then that probably explains why the harddrive works on the test computer when I tried repairing it and not the computer it's intended for

That sort of begs the question how the heck were you loading it to begin with?

Okay between using the link you provided above and this forum post, I solved the problem

I had to use DISKPART to make the boot drive active

I had to use Bcdboot C:\windows in the RE command prompt to remake the boot folder

then I had to follow:
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd
bootrec /fixMBR
bootrec /fixBoot

How it this all happened, I have NO idea. It was my brother's computer, he said he turned it off one night, the next morning it wouldn't boot. He is too lazy to fix things on his own, so I had to do it.

But, THANK YOU for steering me into the right path.
