I may be wrong but I thought I read that Win7 OS's have problems with 3 TB hard drives. If that is true, is the problem only when the OS is put on it? Cause I plan to use it only as a slave drive.

Location: A place not actively occupied by something else.
There are no problems as long as you are running 64 bit Windows (which most installs are.) and a motherboard with UEFI/EFI (which many newer ones are...).

Win 7 is actually the cure, not the problem with the caveat that you're running 64 bit
