most likely there are to many things on that circuit. if the computer is running and the fuse blows, find out what else started running, like the refrigerator, or a space heater, check the main box and see if that circuit is labeled and what is on it.

please state your computer specs and clarify what exactly is blowing?

If its your house fuse, you will need to make sure other high amp components aren't linked to the same circuit as your PC, just what Red mentioned.

It also really depends on how your wiring is done; a lot of older houses may only have wiring done for 10 or 15amp while more modern houses will be able to handle 20 or 30amps. Some cheap builders may run the same circuit over multiple rooms to save cost instead of doing one circuit per room. With a 20amp circuit, that should net you around 2200-2400w of power; well more like 2000w realistically.

A high end gaming rig could stress this if the PC runs multiple PSU's and other devices like monitors; a reason why at my clan lan parties we run 30amp sockets per person for large rigs; otherwise it'll be for two people. (yes, we have two electricians in our clan. woot!)

Sorry for the lack of info i was in a rush. The fuse that has gone is in the plug i gave the pc to a friend to have a look and he said the fuse in the plug keeps blowing. The fuse that was in was a 5 amp fuse so when it went he tried a 13 amp fuse which he said was big and that blew aswell now he is thinking this might be the power pack???.
I don't have the details of the pc at the min but i will put them up when i do. It's not a new pc quite old say 5 years but still i'd rather get it fixed than pay for a new one .
Many thanks for your replies and hopefully someone will have a answer.

So this is in a power conditioner or surge suppressor of some type?

if so, I have doubts this has anything to do with your PC.

or a ups? 5 amps should be more than enough to power a simple pc system, if a 13amp fuse is blowing two, it means you have a short somewhere in... whatever is blowing. Still need to clarify what exactly is blowing and not...

Because this is a US based forum and we run a 110-120v circuit and most PC cables here don't require a fuse in the cable. That's your standard.

You need to post up your computer specs, but I'm still going to say something is shorting out or you have a bad cable.

fuses blow for only one reason - too much power is being drawn. If only your pc is connected then the power supply is trying to draw too much power which means it's either shorted or grounded. You'll be lucky if you don't need all new components. If you're lucky, you'll just need a new psu.

I think pickle hit and that you probably had a bad PSU. I think I know what you are talking about, but the only things I have seen here in the States with fuses in the plugs are Christmas lights. The power standard in the UK is 220v or 240v ( forgot which ), 50 cycles and I forgot the amps. We get a lot of flks from the UK on the site I moderate, as they mistake us for the PC World Superstore in the UK. :D
