I've just completed my first build and my GPU is not initialising from a cold start, only after reseting.

I've loaded the newest drivers I could find. Originally I used Catalyst Control Centre but it started not loading properly so I've uninstalled it.

My system specs are as follows:
Asus ROG maximus IV extreme-z (bios vers 0403)
Intel i5 2500k 3.3Ghz
8Gb Corsair 1600mhz RAM
Asus HD6970 direst cuii 2Gb
Corsair H80
OCZ vertex 3
WDBC 2TB
Corsair 850W Enthusiast series PSU

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's the WTBC drive and the direst video card to blame. Take it with a grain of salt bro...

Double check all work done and make sure you understand it. Didn't do it talking to us, so the computer is hosed.

Update your BIOS?
Should be a few options for waking up on PCIE and having the PCIE as your primary adapter.

Thanks for the advice given, I should have said my OS is Windows 7.

As far as I can tell Catalyst Control Centre seems to be the culprit. I've come across quite a few forums with people having problems with it. After successfully uninstalling CCC, (including uninstalling C++ x64), reinstalling CCC and the latest drivers from AMD the problem was resolved. CCC even worked for a whole day before stopping working again, but I got no error message on startup relating to my GPU and it not initialising. Ended up just removing CCC and everything is running perfectly.

I would check to see if the latest version of CCC you were running was not a BETA. When installing that stuff stay with the latest WHQL version.
