Hey I have a new computer with my OS installed on my SSD and games etc installed on my HDD.
I just got a video card driver update notification and I am wondering where I should install it to. I would like to install the update onto my HDD to save as much space as possible on my SSD but will this work? Or do I have to install all video card updates/drivers onto the SSD since it already has folders containing things for my video card.

Thanks in advance

Video card drivers will always be installed on your system drive (C:\). If it's asking you for a location, it's just where to put the install files.

I decided to install it onto my HDD even though I already have files related to my graphics card on my SSD and when I open up my graphics card engine control center and search for updates it does not recognize I installed the latest driver... Is this because I installed it onto my HDD? Should I reinstall it onto my SSD?

(graphics card folders are on my C: drive when I bought my computer. -I installed driver update for graphics card onto my D: drive to save space on C: drive and now when I scan for graphics card updates it does not recognize the latest driver I installed)

It is probably only scanning where the last update was. Try setting it to where you saved it.

You're supposed to install drivers in the C:\ drive. Windows isn't going to look for where you put your drivers other than its designated spot.

Not true. You can point, direct and redirect w7 to wherever you want things sent and retrieived. It just takes a little time, insistence and patience.

Well, I'm sure you could also just symlink the INF folder. Either way, driver and support software usually doesn't take up any more than 100-200MB. I'm curious as to why OP is so concerned about saving space on an SSD. Especially with system files. The point of an SSD is so your IO is faster, especially with system files.

That I totally agree with. All my drivers are on the SSD and will always be. But to place them elsewhere is an option....seemingly a compelling one for this guy.
