Does anyone know from experience which is the hotter running chip, the Intel Pentium 4 Prescott, or the AMD Athlon XP Palamino?

I've got a Throughbred B core that supposed to be cooler then the Palamino and it runs between 50C and 54C with a copper HSF from GlacialTech.

I figured the Palaminos might be a tad warmer.

thats pretty darn hot, ive got a tbred-b in a cool (70-80) degree climate and it idles at 100 or so and peaks at about 115. (all temps in F). I use a thermaltake volcano9 and the fan is set manually to the lowest setting.

You may want to check heatsink seating and thermal paste.

They're on there tight with Antec Reference thermal grease. Might swtich to Artic Silver 5 sooner or later, not sure if it'll make a difference because I think most of the heat comes from the VRMs which run at 54-57C.

6 Hard Drives, 4 Opticals, 2 Processors, a shitty Powercolor 9700 Pro, a Quantum Obsidian2 X-24 (fucking giant radiator), one ADSTech PyroLink Firewire card, a Hercules DigiFire 7.1 card, and 5 ribbon cables to block the airflow from 6 Vantec Silent Stealth case fans (which ain't so silent).

It gets the job done the way it's setup now.

The only minor annoyance I get is from the Powercolor card when I'm playing UT2k4 and it suddenly decides to hose my system right as I'm nuking an enemy power node. I can't wait to get rid of that thing.

Well, I had the extra room in the case, and the extra resources, so I figured I'd give the Antec EPS12V 550W PSU a run for the money and see how much shit I could cram into it before the power supply would commit self immolation.

I guess it's not a surprise when it managed to put out enough juice for everything and then some, even when I started plugging in external bus powered 2.5" firewire drives.
