Another place to watch out for scams is Ebay. I've gotten lucky so far with my 2 purchases from Ebay.(My HP A7217A 24-inch CRT,as well as 3 IBM Model M keyboards.) A tip: Try to buy from Ebay stores, rather than private sellers.

Thanks for this thread Paul, and the good advice. :)
Once in awhile when I try out a new AV and uninstall it, I get a quick questionnaire to click and tick. For me the biggest issue isn't getting a virus, as if I all else fails, I can reinstall the OS. Yet what I'm more concerned about and that I fill in the survey is Phishing, web page redirection, identity theft, and now stuff like this. Viruses are old hat, the new threat is just plain more greedy than the mischievous, "let's see how I can screw up somebody's PC" threat.

Wow. Thank you for this warning. I am a complete Noob here but I have to admit I joined not just to get educated but maybe find some good deals. I guess let the buyer beware is a good thing. I also wanted to say what a wealth of information this site is and i hope to learn and contribute. Working as an insurance agent can be boring but I live a double life because of places like this :D

Thank you for the heads up in informing us about this kind of people. I really hate it when people do this. They should get banned or reported to the authorities in the website where they sent the message.

Wow I read the posts and followed the story of this leakytire guy. I can't believe that he got off, I really feel for everyone that was victimized by him. Thank you for the helpfull hints on how to avoid this I never realized how easy it would be to get scammed untill I read this thread and the one linked to webratt's name.

Thank you again for thinking of everyone enough to post this helpfull information.
