Hi guys,

Good to 'meet' you and I was just looking for some help on the build I have outlined (still quite roughly) below. I built a PC about 5 years ago now but I feel like the knowledge I had back then has faded and I'm trying to get back into it.

This time I want to build a PC for under £1000 (I'm in the UK so will probably be ordering from a particular website scan.co.uk - don't know if I am allowed to mention them under your forum rules which I looked at but please moderate out if not).

I'm looking for it to run FSX (Flight Simulator X) at high graphics with various add-ons, in this respect I understand the game is very CPU intensive as opposed to GPU intensive, however I will also be running some other modern games but FSX is my focus. Therefore I would be looking to overclock the CPU sensibly to achieve this.

Please can you tell me if there is anything wrong with the below, and how you might improve or change the setup I have so far?

Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 GAMING Intel Z87 Socket 1150 Motherboard with mSATA Slot
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K Socket 1150 'Devils Canyon' (22nm) Quad Core Processor Retail with Heat Sink Fan
Graphics Card MSI GeForce GTX 770 Twin Frozr Gaming Edition Graphics Card - 2GB
PSU Pure Power L8 630W BN182 Modular 80+ Bronze 12cm Quiet Fan Braided Cables SLi/Xfire Silent
Case Corsair Carbide Series 500R White Mid Tower Case No PSU
Memory Corsair Memory Vengeance Pro Series Red 16GB DDR3 2400 MHz Dual Channel Desktop
Cooling Corsair H90 Hydro CPU Cooler for Intel and AMD Processors CPU Cooler
Optical Drive Samsung SH-118BB/BEBE Black 18x SATA DVD ROM - OEM

I am looking to get a SSD for system files and quick booting. There is also the option to salvage my 2TB HDD from my current pc but I need to check the specs etc. I may also be able to salvage the PSU from my current pc as well but don't have my current system specs to hand right now.

If anyone who would be willing to take a quick look at this and give me any advice then it would be much appreciated!

Thanks :)

You may want to consider a Z97 board if you're going for an i5-4690K, as Z87 boards may not have compatibility out of the box. Yes they do say there is compatibility, but you have to update the BIOS first, which you need a CPU that works with the board.

Thanks for the response, I did see that mentioned on the website and it was actually going to be my next question.

Do I need to worry about the heatsink, I'm a bit confused by the i5 I have selected as it says 'with heat sink fan' but I want to use liquid cooling...

Processors come with a heat sink and fan for you to install if you don't have anything else.
