The parents need a new small cheap pc just for office work and internet browsing. Hard drive, OS (I have extra windows 7), optical drive, keyboard, monitor and mouse are not needed. Space is an issue. The cheaper and smaller the better so I was considering the Intel Celeron NUC with room for a 2.5 inch hard drive

or an AMD APU in a Coolermaster Elite 110 with a MSI A88XI AC mobo

The second option has the added benefit of me being able to throw a 750 ti in in later to use as another gaming system =)

What about a cheap mini itx Intel build?

I know these build the cheapest system threads are fun and options change every few months so I'm interested in what you guys will come up with.

The NUC uses Bay Trail, so it'll work for an office PC, but don't expect it to pull any gaming chores.

I'd honestly stick with an Intel system because for an office PC, I think it's better to sip power so as to remain cool and quiet. Plus if you're going to put a GPU in an APU system, what's the point of having an APU? So I threw out this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Celeron G1820 2.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($47.99 @ Mwave)
Motherboard: ASRock H81M-ITX Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($65.38 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($44.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Apex MI-008 Mini ITX Tower Case w/250W Power Supply ($39.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $198.35
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The case was just something to throw out there. Probably not a good idea to use it. But otherwise the Cooler Master case with a $30 PSU from Seasonic or Corsair will put you at an additional $20-$30.

Look into one of the AMD combos at MicroCenter. Usually you can find one with a basic motherboard for about $100. More powerful than the NUC I think. For general web browsing, you could also look at some of the new Atom quad-core solutions as well for basic tasks. But with the MC combo, you could probably build a PC for about $250 that they could use for at least 5 years if not more, if they're just doing basic Internet/email stuff.
