So my sound card died and right now I went back to the integrated audio on my EVGA X58 MB. To be honest, I am not sure if I should even buy another sound card or just use the integrated audio. I have a set of decent 5.1 surround sound speakers as well as a nice pair of Ax PC pro 5.1 surround sound headset.

Can the integrated audio run the 5.1 surround sound speakers or do I still need a sound card? If I do, can anyone recommend a dedicated sound card for 100.00 or less? Thanks

Your motherboard can do surround sound. And assuming EVGA used the same audio chip for the entire X58 lineup, then it's the Realtek ALC 889, which actually has quality comparable to some high-end equipment.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I'm just going to stick with the integrated audio then.

Well just to double check since there are other X58 boards, as long as you have 5/6 sound jacks on the back, you're good.

There are like 4 different jacks in the back. One for the external mic and the rest are for the speakers. I have my 5.1 surround sound speakers plugged in to them. Is that what you mean?

I am not getting sound out of most of my surround sound speakers. I get sound out of my front left and front right speakers. Nothing out of the center, rear left and rear right, or the sub woofer. I went into the playback settings in the sound menu and set it up for 5.1 surround but I may as well just be using two speakers.

Am I missing something?

The content has to support 5.1 unless you can apply an upmixer on your audio options.
