You have it nailed down. The only thing I can think of is to get an i5-4670 or 4690 instead since the i7 doesn't add a whole lot more performance

oh oops. didn't mean to spam.

I read somewhere that the Haswell has specific compatibility requirements, so does it work with the parts?
Also, does Z87 and Z97 have much difference and worth the $50 bump?

Haswell only has issues with certain power supplies because of one of its sleep states. I believe most motherboard manufacturers default it so there won't be a problem. It doesn't affect S3 sleep mode though.

Otherwise it looks good. And unless you need what a Z97 board offers, there's no reason to get one.
