So I've looked around the market for some decent components and built (what i think is) a decent gaming pc. I was just wondering what everyone thought about it, any advice or any poor choices I've made.

I haven't actually built it yet, I just think these components go well together and am thinking of purchasing and building it. If anyone can tell me if these components don't match, if there is a better yet cheaper model etc. that would be really appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! Don't have real long, so here's a few points:
  • In general, everything is compatible so that's good
  • 16GB is too much for a gaming machine - I would go with 8GB myself
  • Not sure what the difference is between the mobo you picked and this MSi Z87 but this one's much cheaper and probably more than what you need
  • My only comment about the sound card is just make sure you have an available connector on the mobo (not whether there is one, but that it isn't covered up by the GPU)

Hope this helps.

And I'll throw in my two cents.

  • Get a i5-4670K or if you can wait until the 25th, an i5-4690K. The i7 doesn't perform well enough in games to justify the $100 price bump.
  • If you don't mind waiting for the i5-4690K, it's best to get a Z97 board.
  • Consider a GTX 780, they're a lot cheaper and it doesn't sacrifice much performance. Especially if you're gaming at 1080p.
  • Don't get a sound card since there's nothing Creative can offer any more that seems to be a must. On-board audio has gotten really good that it's increasingly harder to justify a sound card.
  • Drop the RAM to 8GB. Most games don't peak over the 2GB limit for most 32-bit applications (this is a Windows thing) and games that do, at the moment, really have no reason to do so. Unless it's Skyrim. If you are however, routinely working in programs that eat RAM and ask for fifths, then keep it.
  • Get the Corsair H80i instead. About $50 cheaper and performs very well on its own.
