I am looking for a 4-bay NAS that doesn't cost $500+. I am looking for a 4-bay NAS that allows different sizes of NAS hard drives WD NAS RED 2TB or 1TB or 3TB internal hard drives. I have read & read for the past 2 days but I am absolutely confused. Based on my research I could use a Synology DS1513+ or a Drobo 5D but they are very pricey. The Synology 412Slim is reasonable priced but only takes 2.5" drives, I have 3.5". What can I do. I don't need hot swappable. I am putting all of my Blu-Ray videos on them. Any suggestions? If this is the wrong forum, please point me in the right direction. I bought a DS1513+ for a great price on ebay, but after a day of no response from the seller it is obviously a scam. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Build your own. Just get a $120 Atom/Brazos board with a $30 case and PSU and slap on Linux.

Thank you. Do you know of any parts list/step-by-step instructions? I would probably enjoy the build but I have never attempted anything like this.

I'm sure there's a tutorial or two out there about setting up Linux as a fileserver.

I would stay away from parts lists as most will probably be outdated. For Linux distributions, you might check out FreeNAS or NAS4Free if you haven't already.
