2x8 (16Gb) G.Skill Ripjaws
Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler
2 Asus DCU 2t-3GD5
Samsung EVO 500GB SSD
Gigabyte z87-ud4h mb
windows 8.1 pro retail
3x Dell U2412M in portrait mode

no matter what I do, I get BSOD whenever i touch anything AMD/ASUS related to the GPU.
a. drivers BSOD
b. CCC BSOD

I have tried:
1. unseating and reseating each
2. tested both individually and they work fine
3. fresh install of all drivers
4. removed all monitors and tried setting up with a single monitor
5. tried setting up on single monitor connected to integrated graphics

All I want to do is get the 2x280x's to work in x-fire in eyefinity

right now i have 2 independent cards that i really want to make into paperweights...i have been at this for 2 days....

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I am at wits end with AMD...recently converted, but now really regretting the move.

are there new drivers out? I have tried the AMD_VGADriver_Win7_Win8_Win8_1_VER13_152
and it BSODs me.

I have tried the ASUS disc...BSOD

I have tried the AMD website for the 'beta' drivers....BSOD

has anyone had success in drivers, CCC, x-fire and eyefinity?

It'd be nice to know what the BSOD code is. You can either...

  • Go to Control Panel -> System -> "Advance System Protection" in the left pane -> "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" group -> Uncheck "Automatically Restart"
  • Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event View -> Windows Logs in the left pane -> System in the left pane -> Look for errors regarding bug checks.

i see these:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000003b (0x00000000c0000005, 0x0000000000000000, 0xffffd000223718e0, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 112213-9171-01.

So the two common pointers is a bad driver and your hard drive needs scanning because there's errors on it... But obviously it's the video card drivers.

Well the only other thing I can think of if this isn't a fresh build is to reinstall everything from scratch.

These are the new R9 280x cards? The drivers aren't stable for them?

I would check the graphics card's manufacturer's website for the latest drivers instead of using AMD's stock drivers. If I remember correctly, GPU manufacturers tweak the drivers on AMD cards so they are more specific to the cards.

It's been a while, but I had an HIS AMD card that was acting up with AMD's drivers, but worked fine when I downloaded drivers from HIS.

Hope this helps.

PSU make and model?

I would have liked a bit more of the dump file just under the part you posted, but not beyond the place where you get just a series of jibberish that only a true PC geek could interpret (i.e, the stuff that no longer is in English).

But I would ask, is the BIOS up to date? (F7)

Are the chipset drivers up to date?

.... [edit: incorrect product link removed]

Is .NET Framework 4 installed along with updates? [Should have been included with the driver install.]

Did you attach the crossfire cable?

Is Win8.1 up to date as a hotfix may exist for your problem?

Did you reset any overclock to defaults before the install?

I would run memtest86 (v4) or memtest86+ (v5) to bolster a defense it is not your memory. In fact, what is the exact model or provide a link to your RAM.

You are using the two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots and not the PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot?

The current Catalyst drive is the same as the driver on ASUS support site. You could try the latest beta driver.

You have done a fine job of demonstrating the crossfiring itself is likely the problem (provided you ran a single card in each of the two v.3 x16 slots). The only two things I can think of at this point is to do a CMOS reset per your MB instructions, with both cards installed before you boot.

The other is to uninstall the video driver. Reboot with only one card installed and reinstall the latest or beta driver (I'd try both ways). You should run Windows Update to make sure any associated apps loaded with the driver don't have fixes needing to be installed to bring everything up to date. Then shutdown after it proves stable and install second card.

Troubleshooting Lower Than Expected Performance, Crashes, and Hangs in Games

Please keep in mind that you are on the fringe: Top of the line PC, OS and now demanding two high end GPU cards communicate with each other. When you do new you are the one on the frontier dealing with the issues. But you are not alone.

I would suggest opening up a tech ticket with ASUS TS. I suspect they will be interested.

I had a similar issue with my 670 SLI mode. I ran both alone all fine, but when I would put them in together, they'd crash. I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted and put in the newest drivers again, and it seems to have fixed the issue.
