I am thinking of buying a 2nd EVGA 3 GB 580 GTX video card to go with the other one I own. I will have to buy a power supply to be the supply for my next build as well as for this one since my 680 Watt Thermaltake power supply will probably not run two of these cards. It works now fine with one card, but my old supply is actually several years old as it was the supply I used to build this new rig from 2 years ago, so I stretched my dollar, but now I have come to a point where I need to upgrade it as well. I would like to buy a 1200 power supply in order to stay up with future needs.

So should I invest in buying a 2nd video card with a new 1200 Watt power supply to run my rig that I build in say 2 years or so, or should I go another route?

I am a gamer and would like to get better results for Battlefield 4. I realize my card is several years old, but my version was 3 GB instead of the usual 1.5. I figure with 6GB of video memory after buying this 2nd card, I should expect another a solid few years of gaming performance before I will have to reinvest fully again in a whole new graphics processing package.

My system:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580
Gaming graphics 10996 MB Total available graphics memory 7.9
Primary hard disk 124GB Free (233GB Total) 7.8
Windows 7 Professional

System

The gaming graphics score is based on the primary graphics adapter. If this system has linked or multiple graphics adapters, some software applications may see additional performance benefits.

If Battlefield 4 is your main goal then I would hold off and see if the darn game actually runs a bajillion times better with an AMD card like EA claims it will. And then supposedly NVIDIA's next generation will come out next year.

Also one more thing, you're not going to get 6GB of VRAM when you get another card, it'll still be 3GB available. tl;dr explanation is they have to have the same resources because sharing would create too many problems.

Well then I am glad I bought the 3GB card when I did and wait as you suggest. Thanks for your quick response.
