So I got a computer built with all my parts picked out with an i5 processor and it came in at around $700.

But dell sells the xps 8700 for 750 with the i7 haswell processor and a gpu!

So my question is would I be able to make changes to a pre built computer like I would if I built it myself (ie. swap monos, install a new gpu, etc)???

The reason why it's that cheap...

  • Dell gets volume discounts on everything. Including the OS which is like $10-$20 a license to them versus $100 a license for us.
  • The GPU is nowhere near fitting for a "extreme performance system" that XPS stands for. It's a HD7570, that's worse than a $100 card.
  • They more than likely skimp on everything else.

Also I don't understand your question, but I'm going to assume you meant "what" instead of "why", but you should be able to do the same thing to a Dell as you would a regular desktop computer now and days.

I don't do any hardcore gaming, the only thing it will be used for playing league of legends.

I think if you can get an i7 haswell with 12gb of ram and a 1 tb of hdd your set for a while with all the possibilities of upgrading to whatever you want...any one here think this is not the best bang for the buck?

If the most taxing thing you'll do is League, then you can get something cheaper and it'll last you as long. Every day tasks are a joke to run on modern processors.

I'm with Latios on this. If MOBAs are similar, my brother plays DOTA2 on a $700 HP laptop with Core i5 CPU and integrated gfx. You can probably get a cheaper prebuilt PC than an XPS or you can build your own budget PC.
