I am upgrading my com, I have a $500 budget to work with. Just need little advice, I will mostly be playing games
My current com
cpu:atlon II 2.9ghz
motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2
ram:Patriot Extreme Performance Gaming Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
os: vista 32 bit
new items I have picked out
motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131873
ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231461
os: window 7 64 bit
need little help with the cpu, because depending which i get I could mabe afford a aftermarket cooler for it, or just not buy new os.
I was thinking of one of these two

I could just keep vista 32 bit, and just buy a ssd. Which is a better upgrade ssd or window 7 64 bit?

CD-keys on Vista work regardless of its bit-version. So if you can obtain (through non-questionable channels) a Vista x64 ISO, you should be able to install it and use the CD key. Of course, it comes with some caveats (like reinstalling the OS).

As for the system upgrade, what you picked works fine. However, your current motherboard is apparently compatible all the way up to a Phenom II X6. That alone would be a very nice upgrade and you can pocket the extra money for something else. I'd look into that path.

Thank you for the reply, i will look into the cpu. So you are saying if I can get my hands on a 64 bit vista I do have key, my money is better spent on a ssd? If it come down to it which is better to spend money on new os or ssd?

Yes, an SSD will go a long way over a new OS.
