I have a very unique question that I need your help with. I am getting ready to assemble a new gaming pc (I've done 15-20 builds over the last 10 years or so) and purchased a brand new i5-3570 on ebay. The rest of the parts were purchased through newegg. When I opened the cpu I noticed that the silver part of the cpu (where you apply the thermal pasts) was loose from the green part (die). It was being held together by what appears to be thermal paste. Is this normal? Did I get a bad CPU?

Intel attached the heatspreader to the die with thermal paste instead of solder.

If the lid is loose or can come off, then congrats, you have a delidded CPU!

Well, to be honest, this is something you should ask overclockers.net (or whatever they're called).
