I'm building a new rig. Gonna use it for some light gaming, like Battlefield 3 and similar titles. Also gonna do some VM work for certification prep. Already have an Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU, 20" widescreen Emachines LCD monitor, mouse, keyboard, Win7Pro OS. Picked out this rig, would like some consultation on the hardware. Need to stay under $1,000.

Corsair Carbide 200R 59.99
Gigabyte GA-z87-D3HP 129.99
Powercolor Radeon HD 7770 GHz edition 109.99
Intel Core I5-4670 LGA 1150 219.99
Samsung Pro series 840 128GB SSD 139.99
Adata DDR3 1600 16GB(8GBx2) RAM 134.99
Rosewill Internal Card reader 14.99
WD Blue 1TB Sata6gb HD 64.99
Lite-on DVD burner 17.99
Cooler Master Hyper212Evo cpu cooler 34.99

subtotal of $927.90

Thanks for any responses.

The only thing I would change is the SSD to the regular 840 version. And just because I'm a brand loyalist, I'd get Corsair or Patriot memory... but I'm sure that's a good brand. Otherwise the rest looks good.

Had a thought tonight regarding cpus. I was wondering how much it would affect running virtual machines to have an Intel cpu with hyper threading vs. having one without it/AMD FX series cpu. Been looking at pricing and performance between the three options, and am not sure what it really matters all that much when it comes to VMs.

Hyperthreading is highly task specific. It may help, it may not. But at the end of the day you only have 4 cores.
