I understand that theres risk involved when buying hardware used, but would you recommend someone buying used parts on amazon? More specifically, I saw a i5 3570k on amazon for 198.00 and a 7870 GHz edition for 217. Good amount of savings but has anyone ever bought used before?

Personally unless its from a vendor I trust, no. If they are a reputable vendor then it's "refurbished" not used.

My thought is always, who is going to make things right when I get the item in the post and it's DOA. Either from shipping or just a bad item. If the person you get it from can't then guess what all that money is down the tubes. Or at least good luck getting it back.

If you want to save some coin buy refurbished either directly from the manufacturer or from a place well known like newegg

Just my two penny's worth. . .
with inflation it will be 3 by tuesday

I don't particularly enjoy buying from Amazon unless it's a product I know I won't return. While Amazon themselves do sell things, they're basically a hub for other vendors to sell from. And not every vendor will play nice to you when they play foul.

If you want to save money, buy refurbished from a reputable vendor as mentioned. Or buy from someone you can be physically with and demonstrate that said hardware works.

I have bought CPUs and memory from ebay, they at least have buyer protection if you use paypal. none of the computer parts I have bought have had problems, I am still using the last three purchases in the last two years, a cpu which has been overclocked since it was installed, a motherboard and memory, the motherboard is overclocking its processor in my sons machine, I do not overclock memory, so its running just fine at stock speeds. would not hesitate to buy from a good vendor on ebay.

The only place I've ever bought refurbished is a local mom & pop shop that's been in business for around 20 years or so. They put their 90-day money-back guarantee in writing, and I can always go there in person and raise hell if I need to.
