If the idea is to get as much air OUT of the pc as possible....then why do the back's of all pc's have holes where the rear fan goes?? Wouldn't those holes hold back a lot of air from leaving? Why isn't it just one big hole with maybe a light, rounded gate mounted on the back?

Some cases do. If you get one from SilverStone for example, they've pretty much engineered their recent cases for maximum airflow. You can read more about it at http://www.silverstonetek.com/techtalk_ ... wh_chessis

But this isn't unique to SilverStone, a lot of high-end cases will do this.

My case is ancient (1996) and cost me nothing so I didn't hesitate to Dremel out the mesh on the front and the back.
My CPU temps dropped 4°c.
