Hello Everyone,

I know next to nothing about computers. So far as I know, motherboards make babyboards with fatherboards. Not literally, but figuratively that is the state of my knowledge. I am NOT stupid (you know what you can do with yourselves, trolls) but I am most definitely ignorant. I have some good leads I got by asking on Yahoo Answers and will be following them. I'm registering and introducing myself here because as sure as a bear poops in the woods I will have problems/questions. My budget is about 500 USD. The games I wish to play are, luckily, not graphics intensive. Mostly strategy games - Hearts of Iron III, Europa Universalis III, Civilization V etc. I've been assured that this budget should meet my needs. Do y'all agree? See? My first question.
So, expect to be hearing from me and if you've any input you'd like to give me now PLEASE do so.

Thank You,
Panoply

PS: What is BBCode? Are the lime lickers in on this? What is parsing URLs?

Someone can probably provide a better list, but I usually use this as a blue-print because it breaks down what you can afford in various price segments: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... ec2012.png

Although the $500 segment suggests using an two generation old AMD processor... Which is something I don't recommend. If you tweak with it you can get away with a Core-i3 system. But again, I'm sure someone will come along.

BBCode is basically formatting code for the forums. If you want to italicize something, for example, wrap the text with [i][/i]

Also the good news is that assembling a computer is really easy. If you can follow instructions and take the proper precautions (basically don't rough anything), you'll be fine.

Grab a cold glass of gingerale and mozy up to your screen and watch the three "How to Build a PC" videos from Newegg. Doing so will build confidence in the process, acumen with all the parts and should infect you with a incurable case of build'itis!

lol! Thank you both. So $500 will get me crap? What's a better price range, to get the games I want to play....playable. Those games are: World of Tanks; Europa Universalis; Alpha Centauri; Civilization V; Hearts of Iron III; and perhaps some old Dawn of War titles. Graphics is whats screwing me. I've asked others and they've said my computer now is unable to be upgraded. It needed a better graphics card, more power and more cooling. Heh heh, that's what I heard anyway. No doubt you all know what he was talking about. So if that's all I need..... What kind of money are we looking at to get where I wanna be. The games I prefer aren't graphics intensive.

Thanks!!!

Add:

DVD Drive $25

Word of advice: Make your budget and stick to it - and that goes both ways (don't overspend, but don't underspend either)

Hope this helps.
