well im new to these forums so first off, Hello. So I have a little older pc that i will eventually upgrade fully but untill I have the cash to upgrade everything I wanted to know if just a graphics card would help my performance or will my cpu prevent any kind of increase in fps. Even a little is ok seeing as i will need a new gpu eventually anyway.

Processor AMD Phenom(tm) 9500 Quad-Core Processor, 2.20 ghz
Video geforce gts 250
ram 8gb

Not sure if any more info will be needed.

Hello, welcome to the forums. From what I understand GW2 is very cpu-dependent and will probably be more of a bottleneck than your gpu.

here is a vid of gw2 on a gts250 looks decent but that is running on a 3.1ghz propus which is a later generation than your 9500, so yes your instinct is correct you will most likely not benefit from a gpu upgrade as much as a cpu upgrade.

here is a good article showing CPU scaling under GW2, and as you can see it sadly favors Intel over amd with a vengance.

So if you are planning your upgrade I would consider this order:

your current PSU spec
a cpu / board / mem upgrade
gpu upgrade
any other upgrades

I am sure there will be other comments and recommendations, cheers mate.

Thanks much for the reply. He is running at around 18 fps in an instanced area and i'm currently getting about 25 in lightly populated areas with the graphics cranked all the way. Its weird though my fps doesnt seem to improve all that much when i turn everything down.
My friend has a gtx 450 gpu in his computer I'm going to throw that in mine tomorrow and see if it helps at all. I am on a very tight budget right now so I was hoping I could do the gpu first, even for a little smoother play during boss fights. The cpu mother board and ram is going to be too pricey at the moment.

Not that i don't believe you but Hope>Logic. lol
