WELCOME! Welcome to the MaxPC FORUMS. Please make sure you don't just play a voyeur - be sure to actively contribute, advise and help someone else out. This place is only as good as it's participants - it's all about quality and timely I/O.

You sure you need a 680? What resolution are you pushing? A 670 hits 92% of a 680 and a 7970 blows past it for >$100 less. Use that savings for wickedly fast 256Gb Vector or 840 Pro.

Yes, welcome to the forums!

you don't mention the monitor setup you have - that would help determine your GPU needs. If you're rockin' with a 23" single monitor at 1080p, then the 670 would be perfect (NCIX actually has one for $280 after rebate). If you're sporting 2x 27" 1920x1200 monitors, then the 680/7970 makes more sense.

While I prefer nVidia, Kleinkinstein has makes a good point of suggesting the 7970 (though I wouldn't say it "blows past" the 680 - I think it "trades blows" with the 680). One thing AMD is offering are some AAA games for free with some of their GPUs (I think it's still going on), so that could influence which GPU you get.

As to your 2GB/4GB VRAM question, I wouldn't worry about it - focus on your needs now and in the next 6 months. By the time the VRAM becomes an issue, you'll probably be ready to get a new GPU anyways.

Hope this helps.
