hey guys, after finally being done w/ my medical boards, i'm getting back into serious gaming and was looking at these 3 desktops on tigerdirect and bestbuy.

I was also contemplating building my own but i don't have the expertise or the time yet to take that longer route and from what i know, these 3 seem like a good bargain for what they are offering.

My first choice:

iBUYPOWER POWER TG930SLC Gaming PC - 3rd Gen. Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz, 8GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, DVDRW, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, Liquid Cooling, Windows 8 64-bit -- $879.00
(http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5653741&Sku=I455-G4000)

*** why i liked this computer was that it offers the GTX 660 which is a huge step up from the other desktops i've seen of similar price everywhere. Along with liquid cooling. The RAM and the i5 have been bothering me though. I wanted to know, how important is it that i buy a pc w/ a stronger processor. If there will be a noticeable difference between the i5 and i7, i am willing to put up another few hundreds for that....which is why, my second option is a core i7. This is my first serious computer so all help will be greatly appreciated! :D

*PLEASE TELL ME HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE A GOOD PROCESSOR AS COMPARED TO SIMPLY HAVING A TOP-NOTCH GRAPHIC CARD!

2nd choice:

iBUYPOWER SUPREME TG931SLC Gaming PC - 3rd Gen. Intel Core i7-3770 3.4GHz, 16GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, 120GB SSD, DVDRW, ATI Radeon HD 7850, Liquid Cooling, Windows 8 64-bit
(http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5653786&Sku=I455-G4002)

3rd choice:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/iBuyPower+-+Desktop+-+16GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/6979896.p?id=1218818471131&skuId=6979896

All three machines I feel like they could do much better for their price points. Needless liquid cooling for starters on some of them. The Best Buy one has an AMD processor, which for gaming is lackluster against Intel's offerings. And gaming is heavily GPU dependent, so the CPU shouldn't really be given much weight unless you plan on doing other things that are CPU dependent.

you don't think any of them are a decent deal for what they are offering???

the liquid cooling is already in 2 of them? its just, i have never built a computer and i pretty much have 2 months until my hospital shifts start so i don't wanna spend 2-3 weeks of that time just building a computer you know...

so you say that i should go for the Intel i5 w/ the gt 660 ?? or would you recommend a higher end graphic card...i just feel that if i'm trying to remain under a $1000 dollar mark, the 660 is probably the biggest bang for my buck

if you know of any one particular computer that is a better deal for under a grand...please point me in that direction! :D

Okay you asked for it...

3570k | $170
AsRock Pro4-M with $40 MicroCenter bundle discount | $60
8GB Samsung MV-3V4G3D | $35
Gigabyte 7950 | $270
Barracuda 3TB | $90
Samsung 840 120GB | $80
Seasonic X650 | $90
Samsung SH-222 | $15
True Spirit 120 | $30
Silverstone PS07 | $70 or Antec VSK-3000 | $20

$860

Pssst, hey Doc, capitalization exists for a reason! It's a tool so use it, don't be a tool. Capitalization is the difference between helping your uncle jack off a horse and helping your Uncle Jack off a horse.

Order today, two vendors max (price shop between Newegg, Amazon, B&H and TigerDirect), and you'll be built, boot, and compute by the weekend. Avoid all shipping costs by signing up for 1-year ShopRunner account free with promo code RUNNER.

dude, thanks so much for the advice....just a couple more questions...i know its going to sound unimpressive at best but i would like a more aesthetically pleasing case. Which would you suggest? Would you recommend any liquid cooling systems or are those a waste?

Also, which of those vendors you think are best? Should i just go based on the prices they are offering for the particular objects? Once again, thanks!

I understand completely, a case is a personal choice. It's gotta catch and hold your eye. Pick a few you like and share 'em and I'm sure you'll get good advice on best bang for the buck. I'm partial to Fractal Design for quality, features and price; and also Silverstone for quality and engineering/innovation and finish. I'm salvating over the upcoming FT04, it's a mod of the FT02 or swelling of the PS07 and TJ08-E depending upon how you view it.

Watercooling is only legit if you're into heavy, real heavy OC'ing and you're not. I'd also skip the AIO's since their performance is no better than the better air coolers. And most are cheesy and sport flimsy mounting. For $30 you can roll with either the 212 EVO or Themalright True-Spirit. For the money, nothing is better as whisking away the heat.

Use PCPart Picker to hone in on your build spec and the best deals. They all price match with a little cajoling.

With the new drivers, the 7950 no question. But there is no wrong choice. See for yourself.

wow, i didn't even know a site to compare benchmark numbers even existed..!!! thanks!!!

quick question, does the quality (or price) of the case make much of a difference in the overall performance taking into consideration that i keep everything else the same?

Almost every price that you listed is lower than what i can find on any other website. Please tell me where to go for the prices listed.

I think you don't really want to be a builder. Which is cool, I guess, if you dig cauliflower, daiquiris, and having the door held for you!

i have also been looking at prices and it seems that if i add a case for around 100 and then all the other things, i wouldn't be saving all that much...especially since the prices seemed higher than what you suggested....please advice

We all started somewhere. Most PC DIY builders have had no formal training because really, building a PC is like assembling IKEA furniture or something of the sort: if you can follow instructions, you can build it.

You gotta work for your prices, not fair to just hand them to you. To get you rolling...

Klein, the thing says "in-store only". I'm guessing you have to go to a physical location for that to be honored.
