Maximum PC

So I have been out of the loop on pc building since my father helped me make my old pc about 7 years ago for gaming.
Haven't really felt the need to upgrade because it held it's own in most games until lately, so in the case since it's ragity and seen its miles I figured i'd build a new pc and hopefully with my father (yes as a cheesy fatherson moment). So I was looking for help with a build or a recommendation for a prebuild we could assemble.
Pretty much want to get the most bang for my buck at about the 1000usd range but I can spend more if required, making a killer pc at around 700 would be ideal if possible.
Any help would be extremely appreciated, if anyone has any questions I will do my best to answer.
