I've been waiting for a while now to get an HDD but I wanted the 5-year ones like Scorpio. Anyway, I buy one of those, does the warranty take effect when I buy it from the store (newegg, microcenter,...) or when it was sold to those resellers or when it was manufactured?

Thanks

If you want a warranty always get the extended ones, the ones that start at the conclusion of the manufacturer warranty. For example, the 3TB Barracuda has a 2 year from Seagate. By buying the 3 year extended from NewEgg for $10, you're drive is warranted for a total of 5 years from the time of purchase.
