You think wrong, it does. But in all my experience, it only amounts to 1-4C based on the quality of the fans. You can sometimes get that with the perfect TIM application. I too like Arctic Silver, but lately have found MX-2 better. The Macho comes with pre-applied TIM. Actually all Thermalrights's do. Best deal on MX-2 is here.

My favorite is the True Spirit in push/pull for that case, TJ08-E & PS07. The cooler stand is a fantastic feature

Thanks kleinkinstein,

I contacted him, he was very helpful Unlike Platinum Micro Inc. at Amazon

Ok get this, I ordered the SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5-Inch 256GB SSD last Thursday, as I noticed everyone was selling out of them and the price was rising by the hour. Got it for $209.

They are all the way up to $364!!!! now.

So today I get a letter saying they had to cancel my order because: "While processing your order, we have noticed that the item had been damaged, our entire lot had been damaged and we cannot fulfill your order."

Sound fishy to you guys? I think they just want to sell them now at the premium price!!!

Does anyone know where to get one? If not is the 840 pro the next best thing?

Thanks, a few parts rolled in today I can't wait to start putting this thing together!!

-Nick

Also forgot, is there any difference between the bare drive, laptop kit and desktop kit, other than packaging/brackets?

Thanks guys,
-Nick

Laptop kit comes with a USB dongle with ghosting software and maybe a spacer. Desktop comes with a mounting bracket, but I don't think it comes with a way to ghost your HDD.

But they're all the same drive right? I could use any of them in my tower? They have the bare drive for like $80 more than the kits on Amazon right now.

Thanks

Yup, all the same identical drive. The only difference are the accoutrements in the box.

You got hosed on that 830, plain and simple! I hate Amazon and all their trickery and price timing schemes. Check MacMall, they had 'em for $168 the past few days. If you are looking for raw performance, then on your short list should be the remaining 830, 840 Pro, Intel 520 Cherryville, Neutron GTX, Vertex 4 (or new OCZ Vector with the Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller) and M4 [in that order]. This should help navigate the choices.

All said, ssd's were all hot commodities during this BF, CM and now CW BS so they may be OOS everywhere with prices ballooned until the new year. I'm sitting on hoards of them for my builds this month, but will keep an eye open for a meaningful sale and PM you. You want a 256, right?

Thanks guys,

MacMall sold out last Thursday, I was waiting for Black Friday to order all my stuff, then I noticed everyone was selling out of the 830's. That's why I went with the one on Amazon, the price was literally rising by the hour.

I went ahead with the 840 pro from NewEgg last night, they had it for $250 with CM promo, I would have went crazy having all the parts sitting here Except for the primary drive!

Thanks again for your help kleinkinstein, I hope I don't have to PM you after my first boot up

$250! !

Return it, and snag this 256 840 @ $165. Go and spend the savings on Steam!

Thanks kleinkinstein, and thanks again for your suggestions, I've got one more question to ask. Thought I'd do it here so it might help others.

The only knock I can give the new PC is the NZXT cooler is kinda loud. I'd like to replace the fans with ones that are quiet and adjustable in speed.

Do I need special fans to adjust the speed? The ones that came with the cooler have 3 pins but the mother board has 4 pin connectors do I need fans with 4 pins?

The fans/cooler is 120, any suggestions would be great!

Also is there a difference between case fans and cooler fans?

Thanks guys!

The Cougars are my favorite, they are whisper quiet and I've tested and tried hundreds of them over the years. For kicks, go check just how deathly quiet on youtube. Also the Magma's are excellent and surprisingly cheap for their performance. They have more static pressure but as with any fan, that comes at the price of decibels. You can go nutz with fans, some exceed $30/each... Noctua and Yate Loon always lead here.

Get two Cougar's since they are normally $17 and on sale this weekend for $10. This CF-V12HP model is the one you want (I use them in all my rigs...for both the cooler and case), it's 4-pin which allows for variable control off your Extreme4-M. The only difference in cooler vs. case fans is # of pins, with 4 pin providing PWM for cooler control. Most cooler fans can produce a higher static pressure to push (or pull) air through a big thick radiator. SP is much less important with (most) heatsinks. The massive Macho is always the outlier.

[update] Use promocode BTEJHJN26 and get 20% off per fan. Sheeot, @ $8/fan (in essence 2 for 1) ... I need to be buying more too!

Thanks, I bought 2 fans and some ARCTIC COOLING AC-MX4 (it was free after rebate)

Interested to see if the MX-4 will make a difference over the generic stuff that came with the NZXT cooler.

It's been consistently 30c on idle.

The fans had a few bad reviews but I trusted ya (you've been right on every thing else :) )
