So here's the deal... I have a laptop with no cd rom/dvd/etc etc built into it. Not a big deal. It's got a 40GB hard drive in it and I only use it at school/work where I have a network drive that I can also access from home. So, it's pretty easy for me to send large files to/from home/school/work. It's always been that I could never listen to music/watch movies at work and in class. When at home I watch dvd's on the big screen. Still no need for a dvd rom. Got a promotion at work, and we are now allowed to watch movies while waiting for calls from customers. The only thing is we need to do it on our laptops. Ack, I dont have a dvd player... not even a slot for one. I figure these are my choices:
1) Buy a dvd player from Dell which attaches externally to my laptop (there's a nice funky connector on Dell C series laptops for external drives). I believe these cost about $160 CAD (I have a Dell C400).
2) Get a pcmcia dvd player, which I see on ebay for $10 - $200 CAD
3) Put one of my old dvd players into a usb enclosure and run it all over a usb 1 connection.
#3 is the cheapest for me as I can get a usb enclosure brand new for $25 or so CAD. Is USB 1 fast enough to watch dvds from? If not, is it best I shell out the extra cash for the Dell dvd players or will a pcmcia dvd player off ebay most likely work?
Thanks for the help
