I have an Audigy 2 Platinum w/ frontpanel and I want to switch out that cable that connects the front panel to the sound card for a round cable but what type of cable is it? FDD or IDE?

Neither...Its a special Creative labs cable, best you can do is roll it up and sleeve it yourself.

You can't use rounded cables with Audigy external drives because there is far too much signal noise for audio applications.

It isn't external. It's one of those front panels that came with the original Audigy 2 Platinum, not the ZS edition.

We already established this in at least one other thread.
The cable that Creative uses for their LiveDrive front panel boxes is proprietary, you can't buy even normal ones let alone rounded ones.
And DO NOT round it yourself because that introduces interference, or in other words, its just plain retarded and bad to do.
You are stuck with the ugly grey cable.
