Maximum PC

I was planning on doing a little upgrade and I was going to buy some new RAM. I was looking at Crucial Ballistix ddr 500. I was looking for compatibiblty with my motherboard and chipset and I looked at the Chipset specs, Intel 865G, and noticed that the fastest RAM that was compatible was DDR 400. So my question is, will this RAM work at all on my mobo or will it just run slow. Below is the link for the Intel chipset comparison:

I was looking at the specs for the other chipsets and realized that the highest DDR speed that any chipsetis compatible with is DDR 400. Is this correct? If it is correct, what mobo's and chipset are compatible with DDR 500?

No worries, the RAM will clock down to whatever your Frontside Bus (FSB) is. It's compatible.

That RAM (as well as any DDR above PC3200) is for overclocking. As OCModerate pointed out, it will work just fine. However, if overclocking is not in either your current OR future plans, there's no need to pay for the headroom.

Exactamundo. You only want to buy RAM rated higher than what the CPU will use if you are planning on overclocking.
