I am hoping to get little more life out of my current system. I want to upgrade my video card to play a relatively graphics friendly game (World of Tanks).

Current system:
motherboard: MSI 790GX -G65 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130224
CPU: AMD Phenom II x3 720
GPU: XFX 4870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150394
memory: OCZ Reaper 4GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227320
PSU: SeaSonic 500W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817151069

I am thinking of upgrading to a EVGA GTX 550 2GB http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... viewsBlock

Will I see an improvement? Should I be looking at something else? Is my PSU OK with this card? problems? thoughts?

Thank you for any help.

I don't believe the improvement from a Radeon 4870 to GTX 550 Ti will be appreciable. It's not a great chartin specificity, but it gives you an idea:

Yeah, there's no appreciable difference in performance. The only thing you really get is lower idle power consumption.
