Imho, do not buy a GTX 680 over a GTX 670 because the premium in price is not worth the marginal performance gain. But is it a faster card? Definitely. I'd say if you are considering a 27-inch monitor upgrade, then 2560 x 1440 gaming would benefit with a GTX 680. But at 1920 x 1200, meh imho.

The Radeon 7970 is cheaper than a GTX 680 and probably a little faster than a GTX 670. If you ask me to pick between a Radeon 7970 and GTX 670, I'd still say the 670 because the difference will probably be negligible and because I am partial to nVidia with the GPUs out now. However, I can't argue that the Radeon 7970 is probably a better buy than the GTX 670.

When you get into the Radeon 7970, GTX 680 and GTX 690 territories, you are really dealing with monitor resolutions above 1920 x 1200 and multiple monitor setups. Or you are going for benches or wanting to game at 120 FPS on a 120 Hz monitor. Or you just want the best no matter the cost. Somone correct me if I'm wrong

IMHO you should stick with a GTX 670 from ASUS/Gigabyte/EVGA. GTX 670 out-performs the 7970 in most games, but the 7970 GHZ edition is the one that is more on par with the GTX 680. Also, the OC'd versions of the GTX 670 slightly out-perform the stock GTX 680s.

Yeah I think I'll go for the 670 4GB. The differences between the 680 and the 670 is really not big and between the 7970 vs 670; for what I want to do, the 670 is just better than the 7970
(well, atleast on the comparison of the 7970 and 670).

I don't want to complicate things too much, but since it seems you are thorough I just wanted to make certain you know what you are getting with that mobo:

Compare the features from the three above. The one you have seleced so far is the most expensive because it has the wifi and 4 x 6 GB/s SATA ports. If you need those, then great. If not, perhaps you can save a few bucks.

If I'm right, SATA is only for hard drives and optical drives?

If so, I guess the ASUS P8Z77 LE PLUS could do the thing.

I do believe that's all that goes on SATA. Most newer mobos have at least two SATA 6 GB/s and four SATA 3 GB/s ports (for SSDs and HDD/optical drives, respectively). If you think you may need the extra ports, definitely pay the extra imho. Otherwise, I believe those ASUS mobos are very similar (again, along with the built-in wifi).

Yes. SSDs go to the 6Gbps ports. Other hardware to the other ports.

Keep in mind however that the current Intel chipset only has 2 6Gbps ports that are native to it. Any additional ports will be provided by another vendor. And as I learned from my motherboard, the other vendor may actually suck.
