After some great feedback I am down to these choices, forgetting about the memory and graphics card for the time being. So please give me your opinions:

Intel Boxed (Prescott) Pentium P4 3.4E Socket T LGA775 Socket, 1MB on-die cache, 800FSB Proccessor 550 Retail Box - BX80547PG3400E with a Asus P5AD2-E Premium 925X P4 1066FSB LGA775 DDR2 ATX Motherboard w Audio, Dual Gigabit LAN & RAID

OR

AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 939 (2.4GHz) Processor with a ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboard.

OR

Pentium 4 640 3.2GHz 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache Processor w/ Hyper Threading Technology along with the GIGABYTE "GA-8I915P Duo Pro(REV 1.1)" 915P Chipset Motherboard For Intel LGA 775 CPU.

OR Finally

I am leaning towards the third choice but am having trouble finding any reviews for the Gigabyte mobo.

This is a multimedia and occasional gaming machine described in my earlier post.

Once again thanks for the help, I am sure that once I start construction there will be other questions, but I hope not too many.

hmmmmm........all three cpus are good but dependin on what are you gonna do with your computer. amd is more for games and Intel leans their performance more on multimedia stuff like 3dmodeling and video editing.

but i heard some people who have amd systems say their computer is still pretty fast when they are dealing with video editing. oh well, mosty i see Intel has a gain when it comes to benchies dealing with multimedia.

its been established that amd tends to run games better than Intel, whereas Intel excels in application performance and multimedia processes. if you are sticking with mainly multimedia purposes, the third choice with the Intel 6-series will serve you the best. it would be nice if you can specifically tell us what you plan to do with this computer, or what you currently do with your current machine

i'm lucky enough to have a good p4 setup thats couple years old but still is pretty up to date which i am gonna use for my flash, photoshop, etc... but its time to upgrade so i'm goin the the amd 3500+ winchester which you should look at. i was gonna get an asus sli board but from what ppl. been tellin me asus is good but quality and customer service wise not the best. instead goin with msi just couple suggestions check out 3500+ a lot cheaper and just as good if u overclock, and msi is good customer service and quality.

i'm helping a friend at work build his pc. Instead of telling him outright which cpu to use, i let him pick it off the charts from toms/anands/xbit. His pc purposes are mostly multimedia, but even though the p4 has the edge in multimedia, for what he wanted to do with it (use it like a tivo and burn stuff to dvd) The 3500+ was not much slower. Reason he picked it, is because the general performance was higher.
