I'm really stuck in between ram choices. I'm building a Pentium 4 machine and I originally wanted 2gb of DDR2 RAM (Dual Channel), and I was going to get Value Select Corsair RAM, 2 1GB sticks for $365. But now I switched plans from an Intel 915 Chipset to a 925xe chipset. So I'm thinking maybe I could overclock the processor from an 800mhz FSB to a 1066mhz FSB. I was thinking I'd probably have a better chance at overclocking if I had some Corsair XMS memory in the machine rather than Value Select Corsair RAM. The only problem is I'd have to sacrafice 1gb of the value select memory in order to be able to afford the expensive XMS matched pairs.
Should I stick with my 2gb? Or go for the performance 1gb. I don't want to have a page file, I've run my friend's laptop with 1gb of RAM without a page file for a month with no problems, but I'd still feel more comfortable with 2gb of ram. I don't plan to overclock the computer unless I can get the FSB up to 1066mhz. The computer will be used for DVD Viewing and copying, internet, and engineering programs such as AutoCAD. Thanks for your opinions.
