Im thinking about buying this is for a budget PC im about to build.

Rosewill Radeon X800XL 256MB GDDR3 VIVO PCI-Express x16 Video Card for $$289.99

http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product. ... 6814164041

What will be the NOTICABLE differences b/w this and a 6800 GT with the naked eye (not on paper)? The PC will be used for playing games such as Doom 3, Call of Duty, WOW, UT2K4, Star Wars Galaxy

Thanks for any input

If you already have a 6800 GT I don't think you'll notice much of a difference. I'd still rather have my 6800 GT. :D

I am trying to decide between this and a 6800 GT which is roughly $100 more.....

I would take the x800XL over the 6800GT, as it even competes with the Ultra on a healthy handful of games/benchmarks. I would not, however, 'upgrade' from a GT to an XL as the only noticeable difference will the missing cash from your wallet.

Looks like I'll probably be buying the x800xl instead of buying the 6800GT. I couldnt decide if it would be worth it to spend $100 more on the GT

The only real difference is the 6800GT is SLI capable. If you're not going with a SLI equipped motherboard, then go directly to the X800 XL.

If there were any doubts, have a gander at these, cut and posted from another thread:

TechReports - notice how the x800XL tops the 6800 Ultra in the second graph (3dMark05 Vertex Shader), and in the third graph, trails by only 1.3fps. Of note, when comparing be sure you're looking at the 6800 Ultra and not the 6800 Ultra SLI, as they include SLI performance as well. It also wins 3 of the Far Cry benchmarks.

ExtremeTech - at 1600x1200, the x800XL comes out ahead of the Ultra in, again, 3dMark05 as well as both Aquamarks. In Far Cry, it trails by a frame or two.

XBitLabs - probably the best roundup out there, as they include a LOT of benchmarks (games and synthetics). Again, we see the x800XL top the Ultra in 3dMark05 as well as a healthy handful of games. Also, FWIW we see the x800XL destroy the Ultra in Final Fantasy's XI Official benchmark.
