Right now I have an AMD Athlon 2500+ 1.86Ghz processor in my Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with the FSB @ 200MHz so the processor is recogonized as a 3200+ 2.17GHz. I am go ing to transfer this processor to my Abit KG7-RAID motherboard and use it as a File/Web/FTP server.

Will I still be able to run this processor as a 3200+ 2.17GHz processor in the Abit KG7-RAID motherboard?

I will be putting a new processor in the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard at the same time.

Since the 2500+ 1.86GHz was running at 3200+ 2.17 speeds should I just get another 2500+ 1.86GHz and run it at the 3200+ 2.17GHz speed in the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard? Or would I be able to get the 3200+ and increase to FSB to acheive higher then 2.17GHz speeds?

Yes you should be able to run the barton 2500+ at 3200+ speeds in the Abit.

Sure, get another 2500+ if you want. If you do get a "mobile" one, the lower the wattage the better. Those things overclock like crazy, its not unheard of to break 2.5GHz with them.

That being said you might want to just get a new Nforce4 mobo and a 64 bit processor.

I just bought a BFG Tech GeForce 6800GT OC AGP video card so my main reason was $$$. If I went for a new setup I would need a new motherboard, 64-bit processor, and 1GB RAM (how much I have now). what would I be looking at spending for good replacments?

Pricegrabber has the 3200+ 2.17GHz, 512KB L@ cache, 400MHz buss speed for $117.

They also have the 2500+ 1.86GHz, 512 cache, 333MHz buss speed for $70.

Both are processors are OEM White Box.

Its not that I can't afford a new setup, I would just have to put off buying a couple of other things that I wanted also. I like the idea of a new setup because of the much greater performance increase even though I would have to go with AGP. Either way I go I still end up with two computers
