Got an Acer TM 4502 LMI for $1120 at the Egg.
XP Pro SP1, still not activated
1.5GHz Centrino, 64 MB shared video, 855 (?) chipset
512 MB, 80 GB, 15" XGA, dual DVD burner, .b, .g wireless. Nice

I've got:
Wireless broadband .b and .g at the Chicago Public Library
Dial-up/Netzero platinum at home with LinkSys BEFSX41 (SPI). Not in
installed yet.
Partition Magic 8.0. Drive came partitioned with C, D, hidden
partition for restoring.
Acronis Tru Image 8.0. Got PM, Tru Image installed, desktop
preferences set and CD image of everything up to this point.
Zone Alarm 5.5 security suite (the big one) with anti-everything.
Interested in firewall, maybe the AV.
Ghost Surf Platinum, goes through Tennebril's server for anonymity.
Supposed to do all kinds of other stuff.
Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet suite, anti-everything. Virus is
supposed to be good; the rest? Who knows.
Spy Sweeper 3.5 for real-time monitoring. Planning to add Spybot
for redundancy.
Diskkeeper 9 home version, especially for the swap file.

Also working on a desktop, but the laptop's starting up first. Any ideas?

Of course, there's drivers to update...oh, boy, are there ever...

Perhaps third-party firewalls are a necessary evil, but none of them work as discreetly as Windows' own. Fuck ZoneAlarm, man.

None of the listed programs really jump out at me as being whiny (except for ZoneAlarm, fuckin' moziller), but I seriously suggest using AVG as your anti-virus program.

Thanks for advice. See you've got a new picture. The Robo was a lol hoot. Did five years of Cosanyl back when CV was OTC, spent enough money on it to buy a house. (Legal disclaimer: pathalogical liar.)

I'm paranoid about any Windows utility, but it makes sense that an XP firewall would be easy on resources and invisible. ZA is always asking, This one OK, Boss?, stuff that could be 900-Shiva the dominatrix.

Was looking up PC-Cillin. saw this post on an AV forum, "You say Pcillin goot you get Kaspersky or K-Prot then tell me is goot."

Firefox? Netzero dial-up ISP makes a great place for e-mail, plus disposable Yahoo accounts in case of spam.
