It is that time that I am finnally getting everything ready to buy and I decided to start with the CPU and mobo of course but then i encountered something. I had nearly everything ready, was changing a few things around to stay under my budget cap, and then I started looking at more Mobo's and started wondering:
can a motherboard with onboard video still be used with a GPU? if so, what precautions must I take to make sure i dont end up with a computer playing Gamecube graphics? the board i was looking at is a GIGABYTE GA-8I915G Pro and I like onboard audio ( all i do is use headphones to shut up everyone else) and the lan but not sure about the video.

If a motherboard has onboard graphics all you need to look for is an AGP or PCI-E bus. In the BIOS there will be an option where you can choose between onboard graphics or your graphics card.

with current motherboards they should automatically disable the onboard video if a card is inserted. my Abit NF7-M did that.
