I have a Soltek Mobo and am wondering if you are capable of putting thermal grease on the chipset? Not the main cpu but the actual chipset on the mobo? Can you just take the stock heatsink without fan off and apply thermal paste? Will this help to do anything? Please let me know one way or the other. This board uses nforce3.

If the board has been running fine for you, then there's no point in doing this. Don't fix something that isn't broken. :P

Also, since the chipset isn't too big, the thermal paste might ooze off onto the motherboard and possibly wreck it if you add too much.

My old motherboard had a noisy fan so i took it off in an attempt to replace it, there was already thermal paste between the 2 and it ripped a bit of the chipset off and i had to get a new mobo, i wont do that again.
