I was presented today with an opportunity to build a machine for a friend. he wants something pretty basic... Really basic actually. I already have a vid-card, PSU, Case, CDRW drive, floppy drive and HDD to throw together for him. I need a MoBo/Processor combination to complete this thing for him, he's looking for light gaming, light music, light everything. The cheaper the better. I'm looking in the direction of an Athlon XP/Sempron based rig for him. Help me out folks...

Light enough for an IGP? With that MSI mobo, you're prolonging the life of the system as your friend can probably drop in whatever PCI-E card he wants in the system if his needs grow.

Add that with the cheapest s939 proc[/url] and that's my recommendation.

Another thing I forgot to mention, he is moving to austrailia in December and isn't going to take this machine with him, it will be utilized by his father after this point as a glorified type writer. I put together a rig on newegg.com for under 250.00 bucks (just for the parts I needed). Everything looks great except for my MoBo choice...

I found a PCChips MoBo on there, but I haven't really heard much about them. It recieved glowing reviews from it's consumers on newegg, but I usually can't trust those. Anyone ever based their system off of a PCChips MoBo? How was it?

my friend picked up a board from frys for 15.00, suited what he needed, a basic board, not much for frills. he was happy. only does 533fsb, a closeout of a 49.95 reg price board.

as a side note frys is closing out alot of mainboards, amd and Intel many are 40 dollar deals.
