it depends on when you'll get the second card if not now then you'd be stuck with last gen's SLI cards whenever the newer ones come. not sure if its true, but i keep hearing that it will be this year. if you get them now then i dont think so.

is that helpful? if not then NO. :)

Ok. Try this. Could I get 2 6800 GT's with at least 1GB of ram a decent case, and ASUS SLI and AMD 3500+ You can go over the budget about 100-200$

Do you think for a 1000$ I could get the Asus SLI board, and maybe a 6800 ULtra?(Planning on going to dual ultras) or a GT at the lowest? U could maybe even down size the ram to 512 to fit costs, I could easily upgrade that later.

asus ali delux - 189
xfx 6800gt - 354
total = 543

457 for ram proc and case/psu - ouch...

1GB ram Kingston Value ram, latency 3(not bad) for $95
proc - 3500+ for $267

leaves just $95 for a case roomy enough, and psu powerful enough. HA!

ok - pay up $30 extra, and nail the components to a wall.

you wont even need a fan, use a standing fan and blow air over the components.

ok - assuming overbudget by $200...

that makes $295 for a decent case and psu...

for a psu, the previous antec for 126, or psus from enermax, pcpower and cooling sparkle etc. Do your homework if you dont go with a suggested psu. assume $120

case - look around. I like the aluminum cases from skyhawk - dog cheap at $40. you can look higher to lian li and coolermaster, or just find something that you like. For 1200 however, you're not going to be able to fit in 2 6800gts. Not without some major cut backs. i.e. crappy ram, way way slower proc etc.

for some cheaper cases, check out newegg's clearance section - quite huge.
