Maximum PC

Hey everyone

Im a computer building noob, good at putting parts in, not good at figuring out if they will be compatible. I am looking to put a new CPU in my tower (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103960)

I currently have a AMD Phenom II X4 945(3.0GHz)
I run a DIAMOND 6870PE51GB Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP GPU
For cooling I have SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze 520W
Motherboard = AMD 785G

Viable switch from the Phenom 945, or would this not work out?

If I looked at this correctly, your chipset doesn't support AMD FX processors. Most notably, AMD FX requires socket AM3+, your motherboard would have at best AM3.

Best you can do in that motherboard is either Phenom II X4 980 or Phenom II X6 1100

What do you use the PC for, and what do you expect to achieve from a CPU upgrade??? There may be better alternatives that can be suggested if we know these things.
