Hi all,

So my friend asked me to help him build a PC for him to play D3 on (last pc he bought would have been around the time D2 came out!), and I threw something together for him. It's a bit of a budget project, but I'm hoping for any possible improvements/suggestions before we place the order. Any help is appreciated--thanks!

Add a SSD, especially as the primary operating system drive. They are fast.

I wouldn't add an SSD for a budget rig. But I would add another stick of ram. They tend to work best in pairs. You also might want to look for a motherboard that supports 1600 speed and ram accordingly. But if the budget won't allow it's not going to be a killer. Other than that maybe a 80 plus rated power supply. Im not familiar with the market enough to recommend one. Any way, these are my ideas. Nothing from what i see is wrong just room for improvement if it can fit in the budget.

I'd change a lot of that...for instance the I5 2500k is about the same price, like $20 more. Microcenter sold me ram for about 50% off...I just bought a 3x4GB corsair vengeance package for $79 with a $15 or 20 mail in. Case would cost a little more, but I'm in love with the Fractal Arc Midi runs about $100. I got a evga nVidia gtx550ti for $150 about $100 off on this if I remember right. PSU well we all prefer things but I spend money on these! I like the Corsair HX650w, it is professional grade and is totally modular.

Just up to what you like I guess, I like the Fractal Design cases and the PSU is important and the Corsair is about the best right now, even though it is a bit pricey it is your parts it protects. They make cheaper versions but...

I'd shop around more to be honest...

I'm weary of the GT440, but if it meets the minimum specs or better, then sure. Otherwise the rest of the system looks fine.

I agree with the ram in pairs, also it is a good fallback even if the MB does not spec dual channel. Sometimes someone has a computer with trouble booting or it crashes, and I will tell the guy to try it on one memory stick, then the other. Often enough, when they can swap the chips and re-seat the memory, problems clear up. :?
